Seniorien Voima – Movement and Memory, Helsinki
Seniorien Voima – Movement and Memory is a project of Suomen Senior Club ry. Its aim is to increase physical activity among Helsinki residents aged 60 and over who live at home, support the maintenance of memory and brain health, and strengthen mental wellbeing, participation and a sense of community.

The project provides regular group activities in Heikinlaakso, Vuosaari and Ruoholahti, as well as partly online. The activities include exercise adapted for older adults, movement sequences that stimulate memory, and exercises that support balance, fall prevention and everyday safety.
A special feature of the project is strengthening intergenerational interaction and volunteering. Young volunteers participate in the groups as assistant instructors, motivators and support persons. At the same time, older participants take an active role and provide peer support to one another. This model strengthens the sense of community and gives young people meaningful experiences through volunteering.
The person responsible for physical activity is Aidas Barkauskas, a karate black belt and European KSI Karate Champion, who has also completed the City of Espoo’s gym buddy training.
Who is it for?
The activities are intended for people aged 60 and over who live at home in Helsinki, particularly those who are physically inactive, as well as older people from different language and cultural backgrounds.
The activities are free of charge and open to everyone who belongs to the target group.
